Jenny has, until this moment, seemed like a bright creature — not careless so much as casual, a trait Cameron likes, if only because he's not always wholly capable of it himself, at least with people he doesn't know well. There's a softness to her now, clinging around the edges, that makes him want to draw her to him and say it will all work out, say it like a promise. He'd make things right if he could, even without knowing what it is he would need to fix or if it's even possible. He would make it possible. It just isn't right that a nice girl should have to put up with those kinds of worries so far removed from the ability to try and fix it.

"No, there isn't," he says instead, gentle but firm. "As long as you're here, it'll have to wait."
