There are, certainly, benefits to living out in the suburbs, even if Jenny knows she once would have balked at the very idea. The house she and Cameron have is far nicer than the apartment they were given when they arrived, they have a nice yard and plenty of space and less noise, and it isn't as if they're so far removed from the city proper as to be completely isolated. Most of the restaurants she likes will still deliver to them. The downside, though, is that it often leaves her a little removed from everything else, especially now that she isn't going into the city for classes every day. It's hard to believe sometimes that it's been over a year since she graduated and she still has no idea what she's doing with her life, at least not where a career is concerned. Cameron hasn't rushed her and he provides well enough for the both of them, but she'd still like to be doing something more than she is. It's just a matter of figuring out what.

That, though, is something she's mostly kept on the back burner, so to speak. What she finds herself thinking about more often is how much more rarely she sees her friends — those of them that are left, anyway. Cameron drives, but she does not, so she's at the mercy of public transportation when it comes to heading into the city proper, and it's often easier just not to, or sometimes to hitch a ride with her husband in the morning, if she thinks she'll have enough to do to occupy herself.

Today, she's dealt with the bus, having arranged to meet Beth at a coffee shop that she used to frequent when she was still in school, before or between classes. What they might wind up doing from there, she doesn't know, but it's a convenient meeting place, and anyway, it will be nice to have a chance to catch up. Jenny mostly tries not to think about the number of people she knows who are gone, but the fact remains that there aren't many friends she has left, making the ones she does have mean all the more.

A few minutes early, she goes up to the counter and orders herself a tea. It isn't quite right — few places here offer proper tea the way she's used to it — but it will do well enough, aromatic and warm in her palms as she takes a seat at a table by the window, watching for Beth to arrive.
